Why Weight Matters

Students who weigh ~123 lbs were dress coded ~6+ or more times a year while students who weigh ~115 lbs were dress coded ~2 or 3 times.

A few lbs can make you twice as likely to get dress coded.

WEIGHT MOST DEFINITELY AFFECTS HOW MANY TIMES A STUDENT IS DRESS CODED.

The survey data shows that weight influences how manys times someone is dress coded. Students who weigh 123lbs have been dress coded 6+ times, while students who weigh 115 lbs have been dress coded about 2 or 3 times. Knowing this data, we concluded that students who are heavier are more likely to become dress coded.

Some would argue we didn’t need a survey to know this. Many of our classmates will tell you, “Yes, students who are heavier are more likely to get dress coded.” Yet this should not be the case. Students should not be able to tell that is happening nor should it be happening in the first place.

We all shop at the same shops. Yet, our data show that two female students could be wearing the same pair of shorts, and if one of them is heavier than the other, the heavier student is more likely to be dress coded. These recurring inequalities diminish a girls’ self confidence, leading to depression, which can also be a reoccurring problem. The dress code is simply inequitable.
